Family Road Trip to Ventspils
Путешествие с семьей в Вентспилс
This summer had been tough for us due to financial reasons. It’s not that we were in need, but we certainly couldn’t afford a lot of things we could earlier. We had some extra expenses and now that I’m in my baby care vacation we mostly exist on my husband’s salary. So when a trip to Lithuania was canceled because of one of our youngest daughters illness, we actually decided to postpone it for a year. Instead we arranged a much lighter trip to another great city of Latvia — Ventspils.
Ventspils is a port city near the Baltic sea, it’s very neat and is known for the best kids playgrounds in Latvia. It also has two water attraction parks (which is the highest concentration of water parks in one place in Latvia).
We planned our trip on one of the last this summer’s weekends and we got lucky with the weather. Ventspils is 2 and a half hours of drive from Riga and though Marge is a truly patient traveler, we decided to break our trip in half and spend the first night in a camping halfway to Ventspils.
Our first stop was in Tukums. This is not the first time we were driving this route, so we stayed loyal to our customs. Tukums is another small and cosy Latvian town which we love. Every time we visit it we have a dinner in the same place and buy extremely delicious bakery there.
Our family also has a point to visit every kids playground on our way since it’s always such a pleasure for our kids. We also believe that kids playgrounds in our travel destinations help kids to get acquainted with the idea of traveling and having interest of visiting new places.
I took only one lens with me — the 135 mm one, which is really good for gorgeous portraits, but not as handy for showing places. So these photos will be mostly about our faces and not about the cities.
And here they are on a playground and I’m practising hard light shots.
And playing with capturing motion.
After having some rest on the playground we headed out on our way to the camping. Here are some shots from our car with Latvian landscapes.
Finally in Mezhmala (the camping). We’ve already been there a few years ago. It’s a nice place near the Usma lake. We loved it then and we loved it this time.
A playground for the kids.
A classic WC with hearts on the door (I actually don’t know if it’s functioning or is just standing there and complementing the view, haha).
Marge found a new activity for herself.
The older kids.
And always watch out for the minions trying to steal your food!
Marge as always wasn’t interested in eating at all.
Some more playground before the bedtime.
No, she’s not the only one interested in the sandbox.
I failed with the swing-shot.
The lake was beautiful in the evening.
So was Anastasia.
Then the sun set and we went home.
(She asked me to take a shot of her sleeping).
To be continued.
